Your return to work · ABOUT 20 MINUTES · BEGINNER FRIENDLY

Practise talking about your new AI skills

You do not need to pretend that practice was paid work. A clear explanation of what you tried, checked and learned is much stronger than a vague claim to be an AI expert.

You’ll make: A truthful 60-second answer with a practical example.

STEP 01

Choose evidence you actually have

Complete one of the other exercises first. Write down the task, the tool you actually used, the output you produced and the checks you personally performed. If you have not completed a task, say that you are learning it.

STEP 02

Ask for one question at a time

Paste your factual notes into your chosen chat tool. You can omit your name, employer, break dates and reason for your break. The tool does not need private details to help you rehearse.

Help me practise for a return-to-finance interview. Ask one question at a time about how I used AI in the practice exercise described below. After I answer, identify unsupported claims and ask a follow-up about verification or privacy. Do not invent experience, qualifications or results. My factual practice notes: [add only work I actually completed].

Paste into your approved AI tool. This site does not call an AI model.

STEP 03

Answer out loud

Explain the task, your use of AI, your independent checks and what you changed. Aim for a minute. “In a practice exercise…” is a useful opening. Never describe synthetic data as a real client project.

STEP 04

Challenge your own answer

Ask: Which claim could I show evidence for? What would I do if the AI was wrong? What would I check before using confidential data? Replace claims such as “expert” or “automated reporting” with a specific activity you can demonstrate.

STEP 05

Save a version that sounds like you

Keep the answer with your practice artifact. Remove invented qualifications, outcomes, job titles, time savings and professional experience. This is preparation, not a credential or a hiring guarantee.

PAUSE & CHECK

Does it hold up?

See the explanation

Describe it as self-directed practice and show what you actually did. Practice is not employment experience.

ONLY AFTER YOU’VE DONE THE WORK

A truthful way to describe it

I prepared and rehearsed an interview answer about a completed self-directed AI exercise, using only claims supported by my practice artifacts.

Use this only if it accurately describes your completed practice. Adapt it to the tool and checks you actually used. It is not a certificate or a claim of professional experience.
