Make a simple money plan for your break

This is an educational budgeting exercise, not personal financial advice. Use fictional figures here. For decisions about benefits, tax, debt or investments, consult reliable local guidance or a qualified professional.

You’ll make: A fictional monthly cash-flow plan with assumptions made visible.

STEP 01

Begin with fictional amounts

Use monthly income $1,800; housing $1,000; food $350; utilities $150; transport $100; other essentials $100. Add optional spending $200. These figures are invented for practice and are not suggested targets.

STEP 02

Calculate before asking

Essential spending totals $1,700. With optional spending, total spending is $1,900, leaving a $100 monthly shortfall against income. Use a spreadsheet or calculator to verify these numbers.
Try this prompt
Organise these fictional monthly figures into income, essentials and optional spending. Income 1800; housing 1000; food 350; utilities 150; transport 100; other essentials 100; optional spending 200, all USD. Show totals and income minus spending. Then recalculate with optional spending of 100. State that irregular costs are not included. Do not recommend financial products, borrowing or investments.

STEP 03

Ask AI to organise, not decide

Paste only the fictional figures and the prompt below. Do not upload bank statements, account numbers or identifying financial details. Keep any real personal budget on your own device.

STEP 04

Test an assumption

Set optional spending to $100. The fictional plan then balances at $1,800. This is arithmetic, not a recommendation about what you should cut. List irregular costs that are missing, such as annual bills, before treating any plan as complete.

STEP 05

Keep your own judgement

Save the practice table and assumptions. AI cannot know all your commitments, entitlements or local rules. A balanced example is not evidence that your real budget will work.

PAUSE & CHECK

Does it hold up?

See the explanation

1,700 essentials + 200 optional spending − 1,800 income = 100 shortfall.

A truthful way to describe it

I completed a fictional cash-flow exercise, checked the totals independently and documented assumptions and missing irregular costs.
